LGSM Pits and Perverts Postcard

Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) was formed in 1984, bringing together LGBTQ+ activists in support of striking mining communities.

Co-founder Mark Ashton recognised a shared struggle between miners and gay people: both were organising for their rights in the face of a government they felt was unwilling to listen.

LGSM raised money through collections, events and benefit gigs, including the 1984 concert shown in this postcard at Camden’s Electric Ballroom, featuring Bronski Beat. LGSM member Kevin Franklin designed the original poster design.
