On Railton Road - Ian Giles

In the 1970s, gay men squatted in Brixton, creating homes, cultivating gardens, making theatre and organising protests. Drawn from Ian Townson’s archive and edited by artist Ian Giles, this publication brings together photographs exploring domestic life, activism and performance. The images capture a community carving out space for itself beyond the constraints of heteronormative society, building networks of care, creativity and resistance. Through humour, solidarity and a proudly queer spirit, these pioneers challenged the conservatism of the era and imagined new ways of living.
